And Sometimes I Get Really Attached to a Song...

"With cool and silvery eyes and a heart that was fit for desire,
drowned in a river of tears oh a river she cried left her with a heart...
made of ashes and fire."

I love this man and his music.

5 Things I Love Right Now.

1. "Babel"
Honestly, how can Mumford and Sons go wrong? Their first album is absolutely amazing, but "Babel" is just like holy cow. Seriously go buy it now. It's literally one of the best albums like ever. I love it. This is just one song out of 15 amazing songs. There is a reason as to why this record set records within a week of being released.

2. Ryan Adams
This just puts a whole new perspective on this song, and I literally listen to this song at least once a day. Plus, I just love these lyrics. Ryan Adams is fantastic, go listen to the original of this song and you'll understand why.

3. "Gatsby? What Gatsby?"
I don't see how I can wait until next year to see this movie. I love, love, love the book. I'm intrigued by this movie, yet seriously hesitant. Yet, Leo DiCaprio as Gatsby is like a brilliant match in my book. Don't ask me about other castings, I'll have to see the movie, which looks daunting in of itself. Please, May come sooner!!

4. "Love is Blindness"
One of the few times where the cover is better than the original. And the original is by U2!!

5. Petty
OK, this song is the definition of letting go of the one's you love, at least that's what I get from it. I just flat out love this song.

MGMT - Electric Feel

Just because it's late, I'm tired, procrastinating, and I like this song, that's been stuck in my all day long. The music video is trippy and weird. Yet that's MGMT for ya'. It is just plain weird. The first time I watched "Time to Pretend" by MGMT, I literally stared at the screen for 4 minutes and then went "what the heck did I just watch?" I feel the same way about this video. The music is good though, so if anything, watch the video for the music. Plus, they capture the moon, so that's pretty cool.

The Poofs of the Whiffen

So, two words:

Yale Whiffenpoofs.

They recently came to my little podunk town because one of our own made it into this prestigous group. I had never heard of them until we bought our tickets. Then they showed up at my school to sing and everything was thrown out the window. I was in love.

Seriously, I am still like in starstruck/awe-struck mode. Then that night at the college when they sang I almost cried at like every song. It was just all so beautiful! After the show, in regular teenage form, I talked to them and got autographs and it was just awesome. They are all so nice and literally like some of the most talented people out there right now. And they're funny! Oh my goodness gracious their version of "Midnight Train To Georgia" was classic!! One of them played the role of Gladys Knight and another three were the Pips. It was hilarious! Also, Brandon Hayse sang "Grace Kelly" by MIKA and just knocked it out of the ballpark. I loved the Yale football medley, and just everything else. The Whiffenpoofs sang "I'll Be Seeing You" and I swear, I thought I was gonna' cry it was just so perfect. Daniel the Whiffenpoof sang "Down by The Salley Gardens" and that was so perfect.

Our hometown boy belted out a song and did it amazingly. And honestly, he totally deserves everything that comes his way. When I asked for his autograph he said "It won't be worth much." In reply I just had to go "Yeah, it will be, someday."

Then a Mr Henry Gottfried got up and sang "Rainbow Connection." I'm getting shivers just thinking about it! Holy cow. It was so beautiful and perfect and he has the voice of an angel and he's hilarious and kind and just perfect. He was the emcee for the evening and just so awesome. He was also one of the Pips. And he's know as the tallest Whiffenpoof, which he so totally is.

Also they told this story about what will happen to you or your loved ones if you go the Cambridge, MA and to Harvard. I'm pretty sure everybody in the auditorium was crying of laughter. Also, after the show at the college I went up to one Whiffenpoof, I think it was the other Brandon, and he said "Hello from earlier today." OH MY GOSH! A Whiffenpoof remembered me! That's my fangirl moment. One day in Yearbook I was talking to my friend about them and she spent a lot of time with them because her best friend is the little sister of the hometown Whiff and she goes "I know! All the time I'm just all like 'Oh my goodness a Whiffenpoof just handed me a carrot!'" It was hilarious.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, here is the most wonderful voice like ever. Henry Gottfried.

(This song has been on repeat)

The Animals

First off, new blog name. I felt like it was time for a change and the old name wasn't too cool anymore.

Last night I sat in the car outside of a party with the volume turned all the way up because The Animals were on the radio. Seriously, it was little kid's party and all the parents were walking up to the door and I'm just there, blasting The Animals, and pretending to play the organ. Yep, the organ, not even doing an air guitar. The organ. That's how I roll. Because ya' know, YOLO.

Yet, whenever "House of the Rising Sun" comes on I undoubtably turn up the speakers way too loud.

Eric Burdon's vocals. Alan Price's organ. Hilton Valentine's riff. It's just perfect. Plus, this version is like amazing and it's live.

The Avett Brothers

I seriously love the Avett Brothers. They are really one of the best groups out there right now, and their new album has got to be one of the greatest of the year. I did have to restrain myself from not running through the Target parking lot after buying the album. I was pretty darn excited.

"Pretty Girl From Michigan" is one of my favorite tracks off the new album, but it's all amazing. You can hear them talking about this particular song here. I love that they're doing this "Carpenter Commentary" stuff. Hearing about the background behind all of these amazing songs is really cool.

And "Talk On Indolence," yes, an old one. A favorite one and it's been stuck in my head all day. It still describes me and I love it.

Alabama Shakes - Be Mine

May be a little late to the bandwagon on this band, but I love them. Britany has the coolest voice and their sound is just so cool.

This is the first song by them that I bought. I bought it just on a whim because the title "Be Mine" sounded kinda' cool. Alabama Shakes has a real '70's vibe for me. And I really like the '70's. So it's all good.

Lana Del Rey

I think she's great! I love the moody, meloncholy feeling I get from her songs.

I also love her hair. Lana Del Rey's hair is awesome.

Two other of her songs are essential- "Blue Jeans" and "Born To Die." Those were the songs that really intrigued me and got me interested in Lana Del Rey's music. Also, yes, her SNL performances weren't brilliant, but she looked gorgeous and hey, shake it off and move on. I just flat out love the music.

Mumford & Sons - I Will Wait (Official Audio)

Lover-ly, lovely, lovely. This song has been on repeat all day long! I am so excited for the new album. This month better go by fast. "I Will Wait" for the new album. Haha. I have no choice. Oh dear, anyway, I love it! Hope you will, too.

I Have A Serious Problem...

OK, so I wouldn't nessecarily call it a problem, maybe just weird intrests is a better term. Whatever. So while other people my age are out living and doing stuff that people my age are supposed to be doing. Me? Well, I'm holed up inside my house, or the antique store downtown. When I'm home I not only watch TV but listen to songs that nobody's probably even thought of for fifty years and trying to replicate hairstyles that mimic people like Rita Hayworth, Bette Davis, and Lauren Bacall. I even bought rollers! Yes, those things that you roll your hair in. They're not even hot rollers, they're good, old school, roll wet hair up. I have to learn patience to actually be able to wait the alloted time to let my hair dry completely. At the antique stores I find all kinds of things I just feel like I have to have, knowing that I have no room for them, then mourn when I look at the price tag. I need a job.

Yet, antique stores have the occasional vinyl selection. I went with my mother and she finds this album, looks me in the eye and goes "you're going to die." It's a miracle I didn't pass out right then and there. My favorite band in about the whole entire world is Fleetwood Mac. Yes, John, Stevie, Mick, Lindsey, and Christine. I never fail to be mesmerized by their music, their story, their music. So when my mom pulls out an original 1977 vinyl of "Rumours" I was in heaven. I literally spent everything I had in my wallet(a whopping ten dollars) to buy it. You have to understand I already had a replication of "Rumours" on vinyl that was made in like 2009. I didn't care! I was getting that vinyl. I went home, listened to it and nearly died. No scratches, the sound is amazing. Who knows how long it's been sitting in that shop just waiting for somebody to find it. I mean, 35 years that thing has been around. Needless to say I was, and still am, pretty stoked about that. Now, all I need is Fleetwood Mac to go on tour next year like they've been saying they are going to. Fingers crossed!

Now, the real reason I have actually made time in my extremely busy schedule(sarcasm) to write a post.  Playlist time. I haven't done one of these in about forever. Blogging and playlisting.

1. "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" Connee Boswell. If you've ever seen the movie "Bringing Up  Baby" with Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn this is the song that they have to sing to catch Baby the leopard. I also listened to like fifty different versions of this song before finding this one by Connie Boswell.

2. "House of the Rising Sun" The Animals. Thanks to just about one of the greatest playlists on RollingStone.com I found this song. I'd never heard it before and now I'm hooked. Basically, its on repeat.

3. "White Rabbit" Jefferson Airplane. OK, so I kinda', seriously love this song.

4. "Hey Jude" The Beatles. Just because this is one of the greatest songs and Paul McCartney's performance at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics was one of the greatest performance I've ever seen. I mean the way literally everyone was singing the 'nanana' part was amazing. I seriously got a sense of world-togetherness when that happened.

5. "In Your Atmosphere" John Mayer. This version is live and I can't get enough. John Mayer does an amazing performance of this song. Just the perfect amount of melancholy and longing to make it good. "Wherever I go, whatever I do, I wonder where I am in my relationship to you." Ack!

6. "Ho Hey" The Lumineers. It just makes me happy. Plus the album is freakin' amazing!

Gotye - Eyes Wide Open

Every once in a while a song just decides to consume me and become stuck in my head. A never ending repeat of drums, lyrics, and beats. I suddenly become addicted to a song, like no song before it ever mattered. It is such a revolutionary occurence. All at once I just want every single person in the entire world to love the song like I do. At least, they need to be made aware.

I can't explain what it is about this song that makes me feel so. Maybe it's the wicked vocals, the frustration, the feeling of an end, or just the mood the song portrays. To me, this song feels epic. One of those things that make me sit back and go "oh. my. goodness."

I hope this song consumes you.

Here's My Number...HARVARD!

I usually can't really stand anything that is on mainstream radio, but this song, oohh.

Yep, I have been brought to the dark side...

...by the Harvard baseball team.

I have long attested to the fact that all guys who play baseball are undeniably attractive. I have also always thought that boys who are dorks are cute. When you put the two together, it's beautiful. Well, when I saw this video on Facebook, I was kind of hooked. Yes, the guys in the video are cute. Yes, the song is catchy. And yes, I had never really paid any attention to this song before the Harvard baseball team got to it. I watched the video about five times last night, another five this morning, and as soon as I got home tonight, I watched it again. Coincidence, I just got home from a baseball game. :) I am such a teenaged girl when it comes to this stuff.

Somebody also brought up the fact that the guy in the middle of the second row looks like Tim Tebow. That doesn't hurt anything! And guess what?!? Tim used to play baseball! haha

Now, excuse me while I go buy the song and dance around my room like a dork while neglecting to do any of the three projects that I have to do. :)

PS- Someday I am going to go up to a guy and go "Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy. Here's my number, so call me maybe." I just need courage. I'm like the Cowardly Lion here people.

Summertime

The weather is getting warmer. The mornings a little bluer. My days a little brighter. Spring is in the air and nothing is better than waking up to birds chirping. This is my favorite time of year. Well, the days that aren't miserably windy, unbearably disgusting, or depressing that is.

All in all I love spring. And summer.

The Lumineers are my band of the moment. "Flowers in Her Hair" is really the first ever song that I wish was longer. I mean seriously, this song is just too good to be this short. Yet again, maybe that's good. Maybe the length of the song gives the originality and perfection that it has. This band is just totally life. Warm wind blowing through your hair and the sun high in the sky.

I need summer to be here. Like now. Life is getting slightly unbearable. The days where shorts are acceptable and waking up at six is a rarity sound like heaven right now. I miss the sunglasses, the sandals, and the warm winds. I mean seriously. Now the wind is horrible and cold.

"For, through the twilight sounds of crickets and sighing trees, a faint, surprising wisp of music came floating to them and all three turned toward it, toward the wood." -Natalie Babbit Tuck Everlasting

McCreery, Perry, and Paisley :)

And that is how far away I stood from Brad Paisley.

It was quite an exciting night.

I went up to the concert with the sole intent on seeing Scotty McCreery. Which I did and nearly cried when he sang "The Trouble With Girls." It was Scotty McCreery, The Band Perry, and Brad Paisley. The whole night was amazing. Yes, Scotty is freaking awesome and I am in love with him, but he was the start to an absolutely amazing night.

We got to the venue right as the lights went down and the announcer said Scotty was coming on stage. He sang all of the songs that I hoped he would. "The Trouble With Girls," "I Love You This Big," "Write My Number On Your Hand," and "Dirty Dishes."
I love you this big!
Then the Band Perry came out and did a few numbers. OK, so they did an amazing job. They sang for quite a while and did more than what I was expecting. I know about two Band Perry songs like the back of my hand so when they belted out the lyrics "Are you gonna' take me home tonight? Oh, down by that red firelight" I was like this is my kind of band. Then they went on to do "Free Fallin'" and the chorous of "Love the Way You Lie." Oh yeah, they also did "If I Die Young," "You Lie," "All Your Life," and "Independence." They were good.

After a while of waiting, the lights went down, and this light show started. Concerts always have light shows, and pretty good ones at that, but this light show kicked some major patootedy. Brad Paisley started off by singing "Camoflauge," an ode to exactly what the title says. Words can't even describe how good the show was. Brad Paisley is unbelieveable. He just doesn't stop. Most people have the lights go down and then they're done, but no. Brad Paisley kept going. With every guitar solo, every heartfelt song, with every smart-aleck quip, the show kept going. Some people are good at playing guitar, others are great, but some are guitar gods. Brad Paisley is a guitar god. If you've heard any of his songs, you've probably heard that amazing guitar work, but it just doesn't compare to hearing it live. As my friends and I were talking afterward, he has the perfect balance of hilarious songs, heartfelt songs, and perfect songs. He did all of his hits and all of them were performed brilliantly. He sand "Online" with Scotty and "Whiskey Lullaby" with The Band Perry. There was even a freaky-life-like video of Carrie Underwood when he sang "Remind Me." Then during "Then" he came out into the audience to this mini-stage next to where I was sitting. There he finished singing "Then"(with an amazing guitar solo) and did "Letter To Me." So amazing.

If you ever get the chance to see Brad Paisley in concert, take it. Don't think about it, just do it.

5 Songs You Should Know

These are the songs that I am in love with at the moment. They're crazy. They're insane. They're brilliant. They're loud. They're addictive. They're lovely.

   1) "Constellations" Enter Shikari
If you don't know who this band is, then it's cool. Just now you know who they are. Warning, this band is intense and has a habit of screaming bad words. This band also gets you pumped, makes you want to know the lyrics and to learn how to play the drums/guitar/piano/synthesizer. The lyrics to all of their songs are unique, opinionated, and seemingly well thought out while being political, offensive, and criticial. I love them!

This song, "Constellations," is from their new album "A Flash Flood of Colour." I bought the album Saturday and have listened to it in its entirety about five times. It's all I listen to. Every song is unique and almost poetic. If you like this song, listen to "Ssssnakepit," "Meltdown," and "Gandhi Mate, Gandhi" to get a heavier taste of Enter Shikari. All from the new album.

   2) "Turn Me On" David Guetta ft. Nicki Minaj
So wrong it's right. Between the beat and the insanity of just the song as a whole, it's pretty intense. I like music that you can dance to, and if you can't dance to this then you can't dance to anything. Just blasting the speakers to this is fun. I love dance music, like house music ya' know? So in turn, I really like David Guetta. I haven't liked Nicki Minaj until this song. Mainly because "Turn Me On" is just fun.

This track comes from David's new album "Nothing But the Beat." Of course, it's a fun album and the people that sing on it just make it all the more fun. Check out "Without You" ft. Usher. That's another one that I like.

   3) "Drive All Night" NEEDTOBREATHE
I basically just love the song for all it's worth. Somewhere between the power of his vocals, the banjo strumming, and the drums pounding my heart melts a little more with each piano chord. This is a song that just screams feelings of longing and wanting a sense of belonging. To me, he's just all like somethings need to change and this is what I need to be the person I want to be. It's refreshing to have a song like this in the world today. Plus, there's just a sense of renewal in anything that closely resembles a roadtrip.

"Drive All Night" is off of NEEDTOBREATHE's new album "The Reckoning." If you like this song you should check out "More Time," "Girl Named Tennessee," and "The Outsiders."

   4) "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" Amy Winehouse
Sadly, the reason why I like this song is because of her posthumous album. I've always loved the song "Valerie" that she did with Mark Ronson, but I felt like I needed to hear a little jazzier, classic song done by Miss Winehouse. This song doesn't fail at all and her vocals on it are amazing. It has all the feelings that I feel that a song like this should have.

Amy Winehouse's album "Lioness:Hidden Treasures" is where you can find this song and others like "Our Day Will Come" and "Valerie('68 Version)."

     5) "Jacksonville Skyline" Whiskeytown
This song is brilliant. I'm pretty sure that this song has appeared elsewhere on my blog, I'm just not sure where. Ryan Adam's voice is just the perfect balance of nostalgia and beauty. Leaning more towards the nostaligic side on this song, though. It just seems like the epitome of that romantic sounding song that just relaxes you. This song, and a lot of his others, seems to be right. What feels right in a song. Ryan Adam's lyrics really top off a song and make them amazing.

"Jacksonville Skyline" is from Whiskeytown's last album "Pnemonia." Like this one? Then have a listen to "16 Days," "A Song For You" or "Sit and Listen To The Rain."

Hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do!

Songs To Drive Along To

I am a Tim Tebow believer. I am a Denver Bronco believer. When I say believer, I also mean fan. So when I argue about who is the better superhero-Batman or Superman(Batman!!)- I would also make the same argument with Tim Tebow and any other quarterback in the National Football League. I'm also that person who kills their throat by screaming at the TV, telling the receiver to 'run! go! go! go!' when they just happen to catch a pass in overtime against a certain team from Pittsburgh. That pass by the way, cemented Tebow's superstar status and Thomas' skills at catching the football. Now that I have gotten that out of the way...

...Back to business.

There's something that I have discovered about myself.  I have a tendency of liking artists that I can see myself driving to. It probably has something to do with seeing "Elizabethtown" about a million times. If I could be like Kirsten Dunst's character in that movie, I will be happy. I have also decided that I am going to what Drew did in that movie. Just go for a road trip and take the detours just because(well, he had a road map directing him, but still). Yet again, there is music that I just listen to because it makes me happy and I like it. Ice cream also makes me happy and I like it.

Here are the songs, and the artists, that I can see myself "road-tripping" to. These are also the songs/artists that I just love and they make me happy.

NEEDTOBREATHE
This is a band that I have just recently gotten into. I like them. A lot. The fact that one of the songs actually is called "Drive All Night" is completely conincidental.
"Drive All Night"
"The Outsiders"
"Something Beautiful"

Whiskeytown
Ryan Adams before Ryan Adams was just Ryan Adams. Basically this is the band that he was in before he did his solo career. I bought "Jacksonville Skyline" just on a whim the other night at three in the morning, it's the only one that I bought that night that I don't regret. So good. The last song is a Gram Parsons cover.
"Jacksonville Skyline"
"16 Days"
"A Song for You"

Ryan Adams
More! He is literally one of the best most unique artists out there today. He doesn't go with the flow of the electronic stuff that is so today. I love him to pieces and listen to him all the time. "Come Pick Me Up" is actually on the "Elizabethtown" sountrack.
"To Be Young(Is to be Sad, Is to be High)"
"Come Pick Me Up"
"Two"

The Decemberists
I'm not a big fan of these guys, but I really love this one song.
"Down By The Water"

Fleetwood Mac
Hey, just because it's Fleetwood Mac. Everything they do is perfect and I love them.

John Mayer
OK, so I totally get why some people don't really like him, but I like him. Yes, his public persona isn't exactly nice, but I love his music. Plus, I just love the line from" Half of My Heart" that says "i was born in the arms of imaginary friends." Don't ask me why, I just love that line.
"Edge of Desire"
"Half Of My Heart"

MGMT
I love the "Oracular Spectacular" album so much. Mom says it's 'weird music.' Which it is, but still. "Kids" is just fun to groove along with. Do the car seat dance to that one while singing along. It's pretty fun. Warning-they have the most insane music videos. When I first watched "Time to Pretend" I literally sat back and asked myself what I had just watched. It's crazy.
"Time to Pretend"
"Electric Feel"
"Kids"

That's it for now. Did you notice the country influence throughout the first few artists?
